Which Phuket area should you book?
Phuket is large enough that choosing the wrong area can cost more time than a hotel coupon saves. The Tourism Authority of Thailand describes Phuket as the country’s largest island and highlights beaches including Patong, Karon, Kamala, Kata, Nai Yang and Mai Khao. It also notes that the southern beaches are generally busier while the north is more tranquil.
Choose Patong when nightlife, restaurants, shopping and a dense tourist area matter more than quiet. It is the easiest recommendation for travelers who want activity around the hotel rather than a resort-isolation trip.
Kata works when the beach is the priority but you still want restaurants and visitor infrastructure nearby. Compare the exact uphill or inland location because “Kata” in a listing does not always mean beachfront.
Karon is useful for travelers who want a beach base with less of Patong’s nightlife concentration. Check where the property sits along the long beach area before assuming every hotel is equally convenient.
Book Old Town for Sino-European streets, local restaurants and cafés. Do not choose it because the word Phuket makes you assume you can walk to Patong, Kata or Karon Beach.
Better when the hotel itself is part of the trip and you are comfortable using a taxi or ride-hailing for other parts of the island. Compare resort inclusions carefully because breakfast and transfers can change the value.
Useful when flight timing is the fixed commitment. It is a poor choice when most of the trip is nightlife or repeated visits to southern beaches.
Phuket Old Town or a beach hotel?
These are different trip styles. The Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Phuket Old Town route focuses on the historic streets around Thalang, Dibuk, Phang Nga, Yaowarat, Krabi and Soi Romanee, where former commercial buildings now house accommodation, restaurants, cafés and shops. It is strong for food and architecture, not for stepping out of the hotel onto a west-coast beach.
If your itinerary is mostly island tours, beaches and sunsets, I would normally start with a west-coast beach area. If your priority is cafés, heritage, food and a city-style base, Old Town can make more sense. If you are splitting several nights in Phuket, a two-area stay can also be more practical than repeatedly crossing the island.

How to compare Agoda, Booking.com, Trip.com, Traveloka and direct hotel rates correctly
The comparison is valid only when the booking conditions match. I would open the same property on each platform and check these in order:
- Match the room. Check room name, bed type, view, room size and occupancy. A “Deluxe” room on one OTA can map to a different inventory bucket elsewhere.
- Match breakfast. A slightly higher rate can be cheaper overall when breakfast for two is included.
- Match cancellation. Refundable and non-refundable prices should not be treated as the same product.
- Match payment timing. Pay now, pay later and property-payment rates can use different prices and exchange-rate rules.
- Check taxes and property charges. Compare the final payable amount, not the first number shown in search results.
- Apply the coupon last. On Agoda, select ICHINEILSAN only after the correct room and rate are chosen, then compare the discounted final total.
When does ICHINEILSAN actually make Agoda the better choice?
The code matters only when the Agoda room is already competitive and eligible. A coupon does not automatically make a more expensive or more restrictive room better.

Open the map and inspect the real hotel entrance. A property can carry a Patong, Kata or Karon label while still requiring a steep walk or vehicle ride from the part of the beach you care about.
Confirm whether the room genuinely sleeps the group without an unexpected extra-bed fee or child surcharge.
For trips built around boats and beaches, flexible cancellation can be worth more than a small prepaid saving.
For resorts far from inexpensive food options, breakfast inclusion can materially change the value.
Check how your chosen area fits the flight time and any pier transfer. A cheap hotel can become inconvenient when every fixed commitment is on the other side of the island.
Confirm the currency, taxes, payment timing and any amount collected by the property before comparing screenshots.
